"Globetrotters' Japan: People, Foreigners on the Tourist Circuit in Meiji Japan"
"Keeling's Tourist Guide":


1.  THREE takeaway points from the essay.  These should be points that you find to be of particular interest with regard to the representation of Japan in this context.  

 I will say after reading this Tourist Guide, I been amazed by during 1800 people really travel around Japan and they put down a lots of information in this guide book in different areas, which give us sense about what's going on during that time period 

I am really interested about in the end of the Tourist Guide, all those Advertisments brand name is really different nowadays, they are more likely similar to what we saw in the end of movies.
and also the tourist guide introduce to us how people talk to each other
ex: LOOK AT the VOCABULARY parts 

2.  TWO images from the unit.  The best quality images can be located in the Visual Narratives section and downloaded from the Image Gallery section.  Please write an analysis that encompasses both a visual analysis of the image and a content analysis that addresses the "politics of representation" as seen in the image.  (The "politics of representation" has to do with ways in which meaning is constructed/conveyed through visual media or language, utilizing the various things we have discussed thus far, including ideology, coding, and myth.)  

The two images I picked is all link to female: girl/women
and how the picture are using the color and what is associate with them.

Berman Museum Ukiyo-e Analysis

Kuwagata KEISAI Bird on a Blossoming Branch Berman Museum This piece of Ukiyo-e by Kuwagato KEISAI has a different angle then other Ukiyo-e, for me i think when I saw this one, it's from author's point of view looking up the bird(or author might want people who saw this feel that way). I assume people who view this also feels like they are under the tree, or under the branch. The view of the bird on the branch actually made this Ukiyo-e more  three-dimensional, less flat, but when I saw those cherry blossom flower I feel flat again(science they don't have color). The blueness in this Ukiyo-e was also well match together, like the background the Color Grading from deep blue(ocean blue) to light blue(sky blue)*view this one up and down. Also, the branches and leaves are the same color like the top deep blue color. When I doing the research for this Ukiyo-e, I also find two other similar piece of this one.
