Berman Museum Ukiyo-e Analysis

Kuwagata KEISAI
Bird on a Blossoming Branch
Berman Museum
This piece of Ukiyo-e by Kuwagato KEISAI has a different angle then other Ukiyo-e, for me i think when I saw this one, it's from author's point of view looking up the bird(or author might want people who saw this feel that way). I assume people who view this also feels like they are under the tree, or under the branch. The view of the bird on the branch actually made this Ukiyo-e more  three-dimensional, less flat, but when I saw those cherry blossom flower I feel flat again(science they don't have color). The blueness in this Ukiyo-e was also well match together, like the background the Color Grading from deep blue(ocean blue) to light blue(sky blue)*view this one up and down. Also, the branches and leaves are the same color like the top deep blue color.

When I doing the research for this Ukiyo-e, I also find two other similar piece of this one. They are made by same author, although different museum put different title also Author's name is a little different as well.

The Gray Thrush
Metropolitan Museum of Art
The entire color of this Ukiyo-e is faded, and one the left side of this piece do not have Author's signature as well compare with Berman's collection and Harvard"s collection, but when I look carefully to this one, I'm focus more on the gray thrush's eye more then the background or the cherry blossom flowers.

Kuwagata KEISAI
KAMIYOCHO ON CHERRY BRANCH
Harvard Art Museum
This piece is most colorful one in three of this same Ukiyo-e print. the color of the bird is much lighter then two of Ukiyo-e print above , and also the cherry blossom flowers actually have the original color pink, also on the left side under the signature of the author, it has a stamp under it. I will say this one is the most vivilid one of the three.

Three Kuwagata KEISAI's Ukiyo-e have the same line but different color, but because the color details are different, it makes people feel different way of this print. How amazing is that!

PS. I find another similar Ukiyo-e which right now is colorful then Harvard's Ukiyo-e, but this time the author of this Ukito-e is different
