Japanese advertisement vs. American advertisement
Japanese advertisement
The picture above is one of the Perrier's advertisement percent in Japan, when I first look at it I saw the major three color from three people's arm (all wearing glove?)
It's Blue, White and Red, which connects to Perrier, it represents the Flag of France. There's also orange/yellow dots on the glove let me thinking of 草間彌生(Kusama Yayoi)'s artworks. And also Perrier's sparkling water product is in the middle of this advertisement, along with glasses with Perrier's name on it. The Bottle of Perrier's sparkling water already opened, when I look at this advertisement it's more like this bottle of Perrier was blow up by itself and people trying to catch the sparkling water that jumped out. This Perrier's advertisement is very active, and well catch people's eyes just by it color and all the dots will remind people when they drinking the perrier's sparkling water, those sparkling feeling.
Key elements:
(1)The Flag of France
(2)草間彌生(Kusama Yayoi)
American advertisement
For American advertisement I choose Starbucks, this advertisement is very clear and simple, the Starbucks coffee is the major character of this picture. but the little details such as the bottom of this poster/picture advertisement is that they are using those brown paperboard it's just like when you are in the Starbucks's shop and you are ready to put on those paperboards for a really hot coffee/really cold coffee. It's definitely a remind when you order a Starbucks coffee. And the sentences "It's more than just a cup" which it's telling the audience that if you have a Starbucks coffee, it's not only a cup of coffee, it's more than that, it could be happiness and so on...
Key elements:
(1)Cardboard
It's interesting to see how both advertisements have similar ideas of referring to something outside of the picture itself. You understand the advertisements because you shear the same ideology with the authors.
回复删除My question is that is the first ad by 草間彌生(Kusama Yayoi)? Since it reminds you of his arts, did you do more research on how this ad is related to him?
It's really telling how easily we associate colors with nationalism and flags. I think of the example you gave, and I also think of the example of the Italian food advertisement that we read about/talked about in class. It's fascinating to me that colors have certain codes to them, and even by just moving the colors around you can conjure up images of different countries.
